5 Signs Your Business Network Needs Attention

Most businesses don’t think about their network until it stops working. By then, the fix usually costs more — in downtime, lost work, or a scramble to figure out what broke and why. Here are five signs worth paying attention to before that happens.

  1. Wi-Fi that randomly drops or slows down at the same time every day. This usually means the network is oversubscribed for the number of devices actually using it, or an access point is failing. It’s rarely just “old technology.”
  2. Employees working around IT instead of through it. If people are emailing large files to themselves, using personal cloud accounts for work documents, or keeping spreadsheets on a laptop nobody else can access, the network and file storage aren’t set up for how the business actually works.
  3. No one can tell you when the last backup ran. If backups exist but nobody’s ever tested a restore, you don’t actually know if they work when you need them.
  4. New employees take days to get set up. Slow onboarding is usually a symptom of manual, ad hoc IT — accounts, permissions, and hardware handled one-off each time instead of following a repeatable process.
  5. The same problem keeps coming back. If a printer, VPN connection, or server keeps failing and getting “fixed” the same way each time, that’s a patch, not a solution. Recurring issues usually point to something underlying that hasn’t been addressed.

None of these mean something is on fire. They’re signs worth a second look before they turn into a bigger problem. If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth a conversation.
